FBCE hosting Valentine’s Dinner

The youth group at First Baptist Church of Elkins will host a Valentine’s Dinner and Silent Auction 5:30pm to 7:30pm (silent auction is at 7:15pm), Saturday, Feb. 10, at the FBCE gym. The menu will include chicken alfredo or spaghetti, dinner salad, garlic bread, and a dessert. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Children 3-12 are $5. Contact the church to donate items to the silent auction and email fbce.youth1@gmail.com to purchase advance tickets. 


V-Day Cake Class

Nellie B’s Bakery will host a create your own Vintage Valentine’s Day Cake class 1pm to 3pm, Sunday, Feb. 11, at the bakery. Advance tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite. Tickets are $35 per person. The class includes a demonstration, instructions, and the supplies/ingredients to bake the cake during class. 

Galentine’s Party Feb. 12

Magnolia Maiden Salon will host a Galentine’s Party 5pm to 8pm, Monday, Feb. 12, at the salon. Please RSVP by Feb. 8. They will have a variety of beauty demonstrations and other offerings such as a photo booth, lash cluster sets, nails, makeup demos, chair massage, and more. 


Valentine’s Special Dinner

Tequila Grill is hosting a VIP Valentine’s Dinner 5pm to 8pm, Wednesday, February 14, at the restaurant. Tickets must be purchased in advance and they are $28 each. The evening will include a chicken or shrimp fettuccine alfredo dinner, music, and dancing. Contact the restaurant for more information. 


Habitat for Humanity project Feb. 7

Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers for 1pm to 4pm on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Volunteers can be seasoned or first-time builders! To find out more or to volunteer, contact samanthak@habitatwashingtoncoar.org 


Scouting for Food

The local Boy Scout troops will be hosting their annual Scouting for Food canned food drive 8am to 12noon on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Elkins Harps. No perishable items, glass containers, or home canned items will be accepted.

Financial aid night

Elkins High School will host a Financial Aid Night 5:45pm to 7:45pm, Tuesday, Feb. 6 at the school. Seniors and parents will fill out and complete their FAFSA forms for the 2024-2025 school year. Participants are asked to make sure they have their financial information and social security numbers available to fill in on the application. Parents are asked to create a FAFSA login before the event. Ms. Haegele at khaegele@elkinsdistrict.org.


Veterans Town Hall Feb. 7

There will be a Veterans Town Hall Meeting at 6pm, Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Elkins Community Center. The meeting’s purpose is to help veterans and their caregivers become more familiar with the benefits for which they might be eligible. 


Coat Drive

Harris Baptist Church Young Adults is hosting a community-wide coat drive with several possible drop-off spots available. The group will be accepting coats through noon on Sunday, Feb. 11, at the church, Tequila Grill, and G’s Meaty Buns. Those in need of a coat can pick one up noon to 4pm on Feb. 11 at the church’s fellowship hall. Contact the church or Young Adults group members for more information. 


Daddy Daughter Dance

The Daddy/Daughter Dance that was postponed by weather last month will be 5pm to 8pm, Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Elkins Community Center. This is the third annual event and the proceeds support the Elkins Softball Team. 


Goshen Farmers Market applications 

Goshen Farmers Market has opened applications for its 2024 season. Applications are available on their website, thegoshenfarmersmarket.com/ and for questions, email thegoshenfarmersmarket@gmail.com 




Spaghetti benefit dinner

There will be a benefit spaghetti dinner 5:30pm to 7pm on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Japton Volunteer Fire Department. The dessert auction will be 6:30pm. The dinner and auction will benefit the David Duncan family as his wife has had major emergency medical expenses. David is the Madison County Deputy Coroner and Chief of the Japton Fire Department. The meal is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Donations of desserts would be greatly appreciated. Desserts can be dropped off at the fire department at or after 4pm the day of the event. 


Voter registration deadline Feb. 5

The general election primary in Arkansas is Tuesday, March 5, which means that the voter registration deadline is Monday, Feb. 5. If you have moved or made any other changes to your information, you need to re-register to vote. 

Passport to Pastries

Wish List Travel and Nellie B’s Bakery are teaming up again in 2024 to present their revamped Passport to Pastries program. The events will be 11:30am to 1pm, every last Saturday of the month (except November when it’s the third Saturday). Each month will highlight a different country with a corresponding pastry flight and discussion. You must pre-order your pastry flight through Nellie B's so they can be prepared with the right amount of delicious offerings. The order link and that month's country will be announced online. The presentation about that month’s designated country will start around noon. 


Tequila Grill adds events, space

Tequila Grill recently announced that they have opened an event space that can be rented for group events and special occasions. The space is located next to Tequila Grill, in what used to house Boba Cafe. Tequila Grill will also start offering karaoke nights with the first being 6pm to 8pm, Friday, February 2. Check with the restaurant for more details on both endeavors. 


Mayfield Mercantile Grand Opening

Mayfield Mercantile Boutique will host a grand opening celebration at its new location 10am to 4pm, Saturday, March 2, at 2421 N. Center, Suite F, which is the old Shear Madness location. They will offer refreshments, new inventory, and specials throughout the day. 


Coggins Clinic March 3

The Goshen Riding Club, in partnership with Dr. Mark Hubbard, will host a Coggins Clinic 1pm to 3pm, Sunday, March 3, at the DeeDee and Kevin Meyer Farm, which is at 13001 McGuire Mt. Road. For more information, contact Debbie Ludolph at 479.601.7412. 


Elkins Hosting State Tournament

Elkins School District will host the 3A state basketball tournament Feb. 27-March 2.This will be the first time ever that Elkins has hosted the state basketball tournament. It will involve 16 boys and 16 girls teams and their families and supporters who will be here that week visiting the new arena, our community, and eating at area restaurants. 


Artist Demos, Music & More at Terra Studios

Most Thursdays and Sundays this month, you can find various artist demonstrations happening at Terra Studios. They are also offering a new Painted Dragon class and have two dates for Valentine’s Tarot Reading sessions. The class and tarot readings require online registration, but their artist demos and Sunday Music concerts are free to the public.
