Local Robotics & Electronics Club Receives Recognition

Our Elkins Robotics and Electronics Club (EREC) has recently received the Region 5 Director’s Award for hosting over 40 IEEE events in 2023. The IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.

The Elkins Robotics and Electronics Club is an IEEE Local Group that first started meeting in 2018 and is hosted by the Elkins Public Library on Wednesday afternoons. Local members of IEEE volunteer their time to design projects and provide students with a hands-on introduction to computer science, electrical engineering, and other related technical skills; as a testament to its commitment to the local community, three of EREC’s five volunteer mentors are from the first batch of robotics/electronics students in 2018 (Anthony Malloy, Justin Lewis, and Case Kirk) and work at a local integrated circuits company.  Currently the club has three groups: the Tinker Squad for beginning students, usually ages 8 to 12, the Audion Assemblers for intermediate students, and the Fabrication Battalion for advanced students. Projects this year include PyGame-Zero: Your First Video Game (Tinker Squad), Using Hardware and Software with PyGames and Micro:Bits (Audion Assemblers), and Building a Handheld Console by Designing Your First Printed Circuit Board (PCB) (Fabrication Battalion).  For more information regarding the Elkins Robotics Electronics Club, contact Lynn Francis at

The award is proudly displayed at the Elkins Public Library.
